Monday Morning Message 4.15.24 Lift Someone Up

"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." – African Proverb

"If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else." – Booker T. Washington

Not a week goes by when I don’t receive a positive message about the excellent work of our remarkable staff. Their talent, work ethic, and dedication to our law school continue to amaze me. They lift up our students and faculty every day. I’m pleased to share some of the emails I’ve received in recent months.

Barbara Andelman, Assistant Dean for Admissions

“Thank you, Assistant Dean Andelman, for your hard work, tenacity, and labor within the college. The fruits of your labor are not in vain! ….Words are unable to express my gratitude.” – Prospective student

“Assistant Dean Andelman, I wanted to thank you for your time at this year's Ohio State Law Fair! I truly enjoyed talking with you and appreciate all the information you provided me regarding personal statements and easing the anxiety of when to apply. I look forward to soon completing and submitting my application for Fall 2024 admission to Cleveland State University College of Law.” – Prospective Student

“Assistant Dean Andelman, I want to thank you for taking the time to speak to me about CSU Law yesterday at Ohio State's law school fair. Your insight into the many opportunities to gain real-world experience through clinics and externships at CSU is much appreciated and will certainly factor into my decision if I am granted admission.” – Prospective Student

Assistant Dean Andelman, we spoke yesterday at the Ohio State University Law Fair. I just wanted to express my gratitude for taking the time to talk with me yesterday. It was truly a pleasure to learn more about Cleveland State University College of Law and gain insight into the program.” – Prospective Student

Assistant Dean Andelman, our discussion reinforced my interest in attending CSU College of Law. The Entertainment and Sports Law opportunities that you highlighted during our conversation align perfectly with my academic and career goals. I intend to apply to CSU for the Fall of 2024.” – Prospective Student

Assistant Dean Andelman, we briefly met last week at the Law Fair at Miami University in Oxford Ohio. I wanted to extend my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to meet you at the recent law fair. It was a pleasure to learn more about Cleveland State and discuss the admission process! Listening to you left me with a greater understanding of the unique qualities of the Cleveland State Law program, and I am even more excited about the possibility of becoming a part of your academic community. I am in the process of preparing my application and will ensure that it is submitted by the appropriate date!”  - Prospective Student

Sarah Beznoska, Assistant Dean for Student and Career Services, and Jaime Gay, Assistant Director of Student and Career Services

CSU Law’s Career Services gives excellent support and advice and offers a great opportunity for students to network in the Cleveland legal community. I have had many meetings with Sarah Beznoska and Jaime Gay over the past three years, and I know I wouldn’t have had the amazing opportunities I've had without them.” – 3L student

Jaime Gay is exceptional in her role and provided feedback on my urgent application materials swiftly. I have been extremely impressed with her dedication to promoting each member of the student body's success outside the classroom.” – 1L Student

Amy Burchfield, Head of Library Research & Instructional Services, Beth Farrell, Interim Law Library Director/ Head of Library Access & Technical Services, and Margo Mathis, Library Media Technical Assistant

“Dear Beth, as you are taking over as Interim Library Director this semester, I would like to express to you my appreciation for the work of Margo Mathis and Amy Burchfield on the library staff.  Margo has been assiduous in renewing books for me, and Amy has printed out many law review articles that I have requested. They always do the work cheerfully and promptly, and I am extremely grateful for their help. And, of course, my continuing thanks to you for processing the books I have ordered for the library collection that are connected to the subjects I teach.” – Professor Emeritus Peter Garlock

Nick DeSantis, Assistant Dean for Student Success

“Assistant Dean DeSantis was the reason I chose to attend CSU. I am a single mother working full time and am part of the JDO cohort. He is always responsive if you ask him for help, he's willing to meet on the weekends (when it's convenient for students like me) and was a voice of reason when I wasn't able to manage my time effectively. I always enjoy listening to him when he speaks to our class because of his positive attitude and personable nature. Balancing work, kids, and school on my own has been so difficult, but attending a school with great staff like him has made this experience possible for me.”  – JDO (JD part-time online program) Student

Jenna Hosier, Director of Bar Preparation

I wanted to express my gratitude to Jenna Hosier on her support and guidance during my recent bar preparation.  She was the perfect blend of teacher, mentor, cheerleader, and therapist during those long weeks of studying. The law school is lucky to have her! “  -Laura Lemire-Janson’23

“I cannot imagine another law school that offers as much preparation for the bar exam and provides such valuable feedback.” -3L Student

Robert (Bobby) Stevenson, Academic Support Specialist

Bobby Stevenson has an unmatched level of enthusiasm and kindness. His guidance and hypo feedback were integral to my success first semester. The thing about Bobby is if I were to express the above sentiments to him, he would never take credit for it. Instead, he would assure me that it was my hard work and discipline that most contributed to my success.” – 1L Student

Have a great day and a great week!
