Alumni Profile: Lauryn T. Robinson ’21

Cleveland State University College of Law alum Lauryn T. Robinson’21 is an associate with Benesch’s litigation group, where her practice covers general commercial litigation, consumer class actions, and transportation and logistics-related claims.

Robinson regularly defends retail and e-commerce clients against class actions alleging unfair or deceptive business practices, provides counsel related to retail and e-commerce issues, and represents a variety of clients ranging from financial institutions to freight brokers.

Recently, Robinson was recognized for her work by Crain’s Cleveland Business, named as one of the publications Notable Women in Law 2024.  The list recognizes women throughout Northeast Ohio for their notable legal accomplishments, guidance provided to fellow attorneys, advocacy for inclusive workplace practices, and meaningful contributions to their communities.

“It is an honor to be named to Crain’s Cleveland Notable Women in Law list, and to be recognized among such an impressive group of women attorneys,” said Robinson.

At Benesch, Robinson also contributes to DE&I efforts, assists with various pro-bono projects, and prides herself on engaging and mentoring aspiring attorneys.

Robinson enrolled at CSU|LAW as part of the law school’s Legal Careers Opportunities Program, after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and African Studies from Duquesne University.

“During my first year (Assistant Dean, Student Success) Nicholas C. DeSantis and (Associate Dean for Academic & Student Affairs, and Clinical Professor) Carolyn Broering-Jacobs continuously encouraged, challenged, and believed in me even when I didn’t,” said Robinson.  “The analytical skills, study habits, and confidence I developed under their guidance played a significant role in my success at CSU|LAW.”

During her time at CSU|LAW, Robinson served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Melody Stewart of the Supreme Court of Ohio. She also spend two years on the CSU|LAW Moot Court Team, including a term as Vice Chairperson, and was an executive board member of the Black Law Students’ Association.

“My experiences on the Moot Court team heavily influenced my decision to become a litigator,” recalled Robinson. “We had amazing coaches who helped me uncover a new appreciation for oral advocacy, thinking on my feet, and persuasive writing.”

Robinson was a first-generation law student who had not even met an attorney until college.  Not knowing what it would take to succeed as a law student and an attorney, Robinson learned quickly that the strong CSU|LAW alumni base would be a critical resource in navigating courses, the legal market, and the bar exam.  She hopes to continue to pay that forward and serve as a resource for current and future CSU|LAW students.

Beyond her legal practice, Robinson is deeply committed to community service. She sits on the board of the Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation and Welcome House Inc., an organization dedicated to helping individuals with developmental disabilities.  She appreciates the opportunity to connect with women across the state and find new ways to involve law students and junior attorneys in the organization.
